Description
Searching for “Bulleit Scotch”? It’s an easy mix-up, but Bulleit isn’t a Scotch at all — it’s a Kentucky straight bourbon, and one of the most recognisable American whiskeys on the back bar. The distinction matters: where Scotch is distilled from malted barley in Scotland, Bulleit is a corn-based bourbon made and aged in Kentucky, and its calling card is rye.
That high-rye mash bill — roughly 68% corn, 28% rye and 4% malted barley — gives Bulleit its signature bold, spicy character. Aged in charred American oak, it pours medium amber and drinks smooth: sweet oak and gentle spice up front, maple, toffee and nutmeg through the middle, and a long, dry, clean finish. Bottled at a sturdy 90 proof (45% ABV), it has the backbone to shine on its own or in a drink.
This is the bourbon countless bartenders reach for to build an Old Fashioned, a Manhattan or a Whiskey Sour, and it’s just as rewarding sipped neat or over a single big cube. Born of Tom Bulleit’s frontier-whiskey recipe, it’s a modern American classic that earns its place on any shelf.
