The Clos Du Val Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is the kind of Napa Valley red you open when the evening matters. Clos Du Val has been making age-worthy Cabernet from the celebrated Stags Leap District since 1972, and this estate bottling is its signature: powerful but composed, with the polish that comes from decades of doing one thing exceptionally well.
The 2019 vintage — a warm, even Napa growing season prized for structured reds — gives a glass that’s rich and expressive without being heavy. Look for a concentrated core of black cherry, cassis and blueberry, lifted by cinnamon spice and a touch of molasses, with a whisper of butterscotch on the long, smooth finish. It’s a Cabernet-led blend rounded out with small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, then aged around 16 months in French oak (roughly 44% new) — the source of its silky texture and fine, polished tannins.
This is a wine for the table and the cellar alike. Decant it an hour ahead and pour it with a ribeye, rack of lamb, or hard aged cheese, where its structure really sings. Drinking beautifully now, it also has the backbone to reward a few more years in the rack. A confident, special-occasion Napa Cabernet that earns its place.
